The hugely popular drama series “Inspector George Gently” returns for its sixth series with our very fabulous Lee Ingleby as ‘Sergeant John Bacchus’.

It’s 1969 and six months after the shootings in the cathedral from series 5, Inspector Gently is taken by surprise when he learns of Bacchus’s resignation.  He realises that due to the horrific shooting, his sergeant has lost his confidence. Still suffering his own scars from the incident, Gently sets about fixing Bacchus and insists that he help him investigate a death in custody – a case that has both Gently and Bacchus questioning what it means to be a police officer at a time when attitudes to the police are changing.

“Inspector George Gently” is on Thursday nights at 8:30pm on BBC1.
